I've owned an earlier version of this scope for years now. I also own other telescopes, including a 12" dob and a 4" refractor. This is the scope that gets the most use.
You can use it as a spotting scope if you decide that astronomy isn't for you. You will need either a sturdy tripod (video tripod prefered)or an actual astronomy mount (equatorial or alt/az) You can add extra eyepieces, but since it uses 1.25" eyepieces, anything you buy can be used on bigger scopes should you move-on-up to bigger telescopes, unlike some cheap departmet store scopes that use .965" eyepieces.
Well worth the money. MUCH better "first scope" than anything in any department store .. including those "computerized" scopes.

The popular "little scope that could" is now even better. The wide-field refractor that novices appreciate for its ease of use and big-scope owners value as a take-anywhere second scope now has fully multi-coated optics and comes with its own padded carrying case. The ST80-T is outfitted for terrestrial use with a correct-image, 45-deg diagonal (1.25") and 6x26 correct-image finder scope in a quick-release bracket. The 80mm achromatic objective lens's short 400mm focal length delivers wide-field views with exceptional clarity. Two interchangeable Sirius Plossl eyepieces are included, and focusing is a snap with the 1.25" cast-aluminum rack-and-pinion focuser. The has a new dovetail mounting block with a 1/4"-20 threaded hole for easy attachment to any photo tripod or to selected Orion telescope mounts. One-year limited warranty.
